Beatrice Ann Woll Gruver, 84, died on Monday, July 9, 2012, at her residence.
A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, at St. James Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marcus Voss and the Rev. Earl Gray Bean concelebrating. There will be a visitation at the church on Thursday, July 12, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Burial will be at Crestwood Mausoleum following the funeral Mass. Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3568. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
Bea was born on Oct. 20, 1927, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, to Peter John Woll Sr. and Elizabeth Catherine Redinger Woll. She married James Ambrose "Jim" Gruver on Nov. 20, 1948, in Cuyahoga Falls. Jim and Bea lived in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Ky., and then moved to Gadsden in 1963, while he worked for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad.
She was preceded in death by Jim in 1986; her parents; three brothers, Rev. Peter James Woll Jr., John Leo Woll and Edward Charles Woll; and three sisters, Elizabeth Frances Woll Gallagher, Mary Patricia Woll Armstrong and Catherine Jean Woll Bedell.
She is survived by one brother, Charles Jacob (Chuck) Woll of Santa Cruz, Calif.; one sister, Agnes Claresse Woll Brown of St. Louis, Mo.; and one brother-in-law, Francis Gruver of Davie, Fla.
She is survived by five children, Regina Marie "Beth" (Charles) Asigri of Redmond, Ore., Marcia Mary (Ray) Satterfield of Philadelphia, Tenn., Karen Marie (Mike) Spearing of Tuscaloosa, Ala., George Mitchell (Gina Mabry) Gruver of Southside and Margaret Mary Barnes (Roger) Kirby of Gadsden.
She is survived by eight grandchildren, Karen Rebecca Gruver (Jonathan) Gardner of Challenge, Calif., Gabriel Jaffe (Heather McElwee) Shelly of Philadelphia, Tenn., Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Gruver (Carolyn Lewis) of St. Louis, Mo., Emily Ann Barnes (Steve) Harris of Wilsonville, Ala., Matthew Lange (Sara Beth) Spearing of Tuscaloosa, Ala., SSgt. John Patrick (Whitney) Barnes of Offutt Air Force Base, Bellevue, Neb., Cecilia Marie "Cessie" Spearing of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Melissa McKenzie Gruver of Austin, Texas.
She is survived by six great-grandchildren, Abigail Rebecca Gardner, Joseph Liam Gardner, Trek Hollis Gardner and Dylan West Gardner, all of Challenge, Calif., Caitlan Gabrielle Shelly-McElwee of Philadelphia, Tenn., Charlotte Bea Lewis-Gruver and soon-to-be born Grant Lewis-Gruver, both of St. Louis, Mo. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
The family extends its grateful thanks for the loving care provided by Dr. Webb Sledge, Amedisys Hospice and its employees, particularly nurse Joy Flemmons and aide RyAnne Gilliland, and caregivers Connie Byers, Rosaline Williams, Kitisha Kimbrough and Makeila Glass. Special thanks to Eva Woods, Tom and Charlotte McKenzie, B.L. and Ruth Long, and Liz and Jerry Howell.
