Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Collier-Butler Chapel for Walter Vernon Moon, 85, Gadsden, who passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012. The Revs. George Lankford and Jeremy Williams will officiate, with burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Moon was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Etowah County Rescue Squad with 22 years of service and was the first chief of Lookout Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary L. Moon; son, Danny Moon; daughter, Valinda (Roy) Cleveland; grandchildren, Kristopher Moon, Brandy Lauffer, Kasara Moon, Sumer (Steven) Chestnut and Jennifer (Jeremy) Williams; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
