Andrew Joseph Huddleston, 87, of Tuscaloosa, formerly of Fairhope and Gadsden, Ala., passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Visitation and viewing will be at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. today with Rev. Jerry Deasy as celebrant at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson Huddleston of Houston, Texas; one brother, John V. Huddleston of Buffalo, N.Y.; and two sisters, Mary B. Axmacher and Catherine C. Watkins of Houston, Texas.
Mr. Huddleston is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Frances Colleen Terry Huddleston; three sons, Andrew O. (Denise), Dan R., Thomas M. (Kim); two daughters, Jamie C. Glass, Margaret M. Golden (Allen); 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews in Texas, New York, Virginia, Ohio and Tennessee.
Andrew grew up in Houston and graduated from St. Thomas High School. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University and became registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and later in the State of Alabama.
Andrew was employed as a Project Manager in the Engineering Dept. of Republic Steel, later LTV Steel in Gadsden, Ala., and also did engineering consultant work for various projects in N.Y. and Ala. He was also sports minded and involved in many different sports, both playing and coaching. His most recent endeavor was organizing and playing Senior Volleyball at St. Lawrence Church in Fairhope.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Building Fund, 733 James I Harrison Jr. Pkwy East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
