James Garrett Collier Nix went home to be with the Lord on April 30th, 2014.
James Garrett was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Collier, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Hicks Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Mon Rowan.
He is survived by his daughter, Elli Rae Nix; parents, Jimmy and Marci Nix; grandparents, Paul and Marilyn Nix, Robbie and Vivian Hicks; uncles and aunts, Mark and Denise Ritchie, Chris and Kristi Ritchie, R.P. and Nina Nix; many great-aunts and uncles; and many, many special cousins, and a special lifelong companion, kitty Tigger.
Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Stokes, Nathaniel Reeves, Jeff Maton, Brandon Whisenant, Timothy Ray Wilson Jr. and Jordan Ratledge.
James Garrett graduated from West End High School in 2011 with an Advanced Academic Diploma. He was a loving and doting father, a precious son, the best fishing buddy, and the kindest, most gentle soul one could ever meet. To know James Garrett was to know unconditional love. He was so affectionate and quick to greet you with a "Hey buddy." Quick to forgive, he never held malice in his heart. He had a way of uplifting everybody he met. He would put you at ease with his crooked smile and his quick wit. He loved vacationing at the beach with his family the most. He was so easy to please and found so much joy out of the simple things in life. He was the most precious gift God could have sent our family. Even though he was with us for such a short time, his legacy of love and forgiveness will live on through the many lives he has touched.
Visitation will be at Morgan Funeral Chapel today. The family will then accept friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and funeral services will start at 1. The Rev. Tracy Oliver will be officiating and beloved cousin Kevin Horton will deliver the eulogy.
Flowers will be accepted, but donations to the Alabama Head Injury Foundation (http://www.ahif.org/) would be preferred.
