Funeral services for Deacon Willie Rushon Sr. 93, will be on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Attalla, where the Rev. Harold Kimble is pastor, with the Rev. Preston Nix officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Rushon passed away on April 28, 2014, at Riverview Regional Medical Center. Mr. Rushon's remains will arrive at the church one hour prior to his services. A wake will be this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Attalla.

Mr. Rushon retired in 1983 from Gulf States Steel after 43 years of service. His civic involvement included City of Attalla Board of Education and many community activities.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Rushon; daughters, Kari (Lawrence) Jackson of Sterling Hts., Mich., Marilyn (Leonard) Rowe of Gadsden, Coletta Rushon Darrisaw of Savannah, Ga., Loventrice Rushon, Velma Rushon both of Detroit, Mich.; sons, Willie (Belinda) Rushon of Birmingham, Lester Rushon of Detroit, Mich.; stepchildren, Anthony Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio, Charlie (Velma) Woods of Gainsville, Ga., Carmella Woods, Joseph Woods, Sidney Stover, all of Gadsden, and Ramone (Michelle) Wright of Cincinnati, Ohio; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ossie Young, Eva Riggs, Mary Pelt, A.V. Riggs, Martha Pearson, Lucy Riggs, Edward Riggs, Richard Riggs, Rufus Riggs; in-laws, Henry (Loretta) Horton, Herman Jones Jr., Curtis (Lott) Jones and Barbara Parker; special friend, Columbus Isaac; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Rushon and Rachel Williams; and four brothers.
