Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel for Sidney M. "Jake" Huie, 90, Glencoe, who died May 7, 2014. Frank Samuels and Gary Frost will officiate. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory directing.
Mr. Huie was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. He was a Mason and was the oldest living member of Local No. 498 Pipefitters Union. Mr. Huie was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, where he was a pilot flying the P-51. He loved fishing, hunting, the Atlanta Braves and Alabama football. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Bernice Huie; son, Jay Eric Huie; parents, Jim and Liela Huie; and sister, Mable Hoge.
Survivors: daughters, Cecelia "Sissy" (Tim) Mize, Bosque Farms, N.M., Regina Buckley, Glencoe; sons, Mike (Gail) Huie, Glencoe; grandchildren, Christy (Jay) Beggs, Leigh and Kathy White, Tracy Mize, Moriah Buckley, Mandy (Brian) Payne, Kevin Buckley; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys (Charles) Talton; brothers, Jimmy (Margaret) Huie, Billy Huie; best four-legged buddies, Maggie and Bud; host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: family and friends.
Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and special nurses, Joy and Donna.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
