Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Village Chapel for Nettie Lee Craig Strickland, age 88, of Gadsden, who died Monday June 9, 2014. The Reverend Tommy Marshall will officiate. Burial will take place at Rainbow Memorial Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Strickland was a nurse and businesswoman who owned and operated numerous businesses throughout her career. She was a member of Dwight Baptist Church and the ladies V.F.W. Post 8600. Mrs. Strickland was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and found time to serve as a foster parent to several children in the community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Jewel Strickland; daughters, Tina Louise Strickland and Connie Elaine Strickland Martin; sisters, Rosetta Locklear, Daisy Craig, Clara Craig Norwood; brothers, Arnie, Reuben, Ben and Charlie Craig.
She is survived by her children, Gordon Douglas (Carol) Strickland, JoLena Strickland (James) Ross, Linda Gail (Jimmy) Hall and Debra Ann (Eddie) Hall; grandchildren, Racel Strickland, Kathryn Strickland, Eric Svennevik, Jason (Clemmie) Ross, Traci Hall (Albert) McCormick, Lisa Hall (Jerry) Miller, Stephanie Ann (Chip) Glass, Gina (David) Langley, Joey Lee (Tammy) Hall, Scott (Jeri) Martin, Fielding (Jennifer) Martin Jr.; very special friend and caregiver, Jackie Battles; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Joey Hall, Scott Martin, Fielding Martin Jr., Jason Ross, Albert McCormick and Jackie Battles.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Alacare Hospice, Becky Smith, Suzanne Smith, Lynn, Lisa, Crystal, Lori, Dr. Debora Reiland and special friend, Jamie Battles.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
