John Michael Collins, 57, of Mount Holly, N.J., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 28, 2014.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Billy M. Jones, Gadsden; his sister, Donna Lynne Simmons, Panama City, Fla.; his brothers-in-law, Terry L. Simmons, Panama City, Fla., and Phillip B. Curl, Madison; and sister-in-law and husband, Margie and Frank Russo, Pemberton, N.J.
Michael is survived by his wife of 21 years, Donna, Mount Holly, N.J.; his children, Jimmy Collins (Lisa), Texas, Stephen Collins (Lorraine), England, and April Collins, Tennessee. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren; his mother, Vivian E. Jones, Glencoe; and his siblings, Vicki Jones Curl, Madison, Thad N. Jones (Janice), Glencoe, and Scott E. Jones (Staci), Rainbow City. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
Michael grew up in Gadsden and attended Striplin Elementary, Disque Jr. High and Gadsden High schools. He was a member of MeadowBrook Baptist Church. He served with the 101st Airborne Division in the Army for several years and retired in 1995 at Fort Dix, N.J., after 21 years of service. He worked at Turstall AMAC as MGR of engineering for 19 years until his death.
Michael had several hobbies, including playing golf, tending his beautiful roses and canoeing on his creek. He also enjoyed watching Alabama football, his Dallas Cowboys and NASCAR racing. He had many friends and enjoyed life. He will be missed.
His funeral was held in Mount Holly, N.J., on July 3, 2014, with interment in the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. Perinchief Chapels Funeral Home, Mount Holly, directed.
