Carl H. Braun Jr., 74, of Hokes Bluff, went to be with the Lord on Monday the 28th of July, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a gallant fight against cancer.
Carl was born in Waterbury, Connecticut. He lived in Connecticut and Maine; however, his last 33 years were in Alabama, which he always considered his real home.
Carl was a passionate man who enjoyed his occupation as a Manufacturing Engineer and Program Manager. Through his life he enjoyed hang gliding, scuba diving, sky diving and flying his Ultra Light. He always had a project going or was busy helping others. In his spare time "Poppa" as he was known to his grandchildren, would be excited to teach or share new ideas and show them what he was doing or sometimes just take time to play with them. He also loved to be involved with the Theatre of Gadsden. He was a director, stage manager and actor. He also actively supported CAST and enjoyed the bonds and friendships that formed through those two organizations.
Carl's career spanned Sikorsky Aircraft, IBM, Pitney Bowes, Beretta USA, Bushmaster and Mid-South Industries. He was known for his strong work ethic and problem-solving ability along with a strong sense of character and honesty. He led his life by a simple saying, "Do unto others."
Carl was most proud of being a U.S. Marine, Semper Fi.
Carl is survived by his loving, beautiful wife, Barbara, who stood by him for over 50 years; his youngest brother, James (Joyce) Braun, Hawaii, whom he admired and loved dearly; his two sons, Eric (Deborah) Oxford, Ala., and Kurt (Cyndi) of Rockledge, Ala., both of whom he was extremely proud; grandchildren, Joshua (Elizabeth), Kennewick, Wash., Matthew and Michael Braun, Rockledge, Carson and Abigail Braun, Oxford, Anna Tyson (Nick Leader), Birmingham, Matthew (Lindsay) Tyson, Oxford; and great-grandchildren, Dillon Braun, Kennewick, Wash.; and Timothy Tyson, Oxford, Ala.; as well as his many loving
nieces, nephews and so many great friends who will always remember his smile and sense of humor.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, from 4 until 6 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. at Covenant Christian Church, 3150 Appalachian Highway, Hokes Bluff, Ala.
