Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church for Mr. Ronald Freeman Wissler, 76, Southside, Ala., who went to be with our Lord Monday, Aug. 4, 2014. Ron passed away at UAB Medical Center with his family by his side. Rev. Bob Thornton will officiate with burial at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services will direct.

Ron was born in Amery, Wis. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a meteorologist and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after many years of service. Ron was an active member of Southside Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School director until his death.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Doris Jean Moore Wissler; mother, Lura Ruth Chalgren, Minot, N.D.; and father, Norris Freeman Wissler, Minot, N.D.
He is survived by his children, Cris Henning Wissler, Birmingham, Ala., Michael Benjamin (Christi) Wissler, Glencoe, Ala., Sheri Leigh (Shawn) White, Odenville, Ala., and Casey Todd (Jen) Wissler, Southside, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He loved spending time with his family, fishing, going to yard sales and meeting his friends at Jack's. Ron was blessed to spend time traveling, dancing and playing games with his best friend, Gail Acker.
Pallbearers will be family.
Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School class at Southside Baptist Church and his friends at Jack's.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
Ron will lie in state for one hour prior to services at the church Thursday.
