Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Southside United Methodist Church, Cedar Bend Road, for Herbert "Lloyd" Cleveland, 72, of Southside, who died Feb. 2, 2008. The Rev. Byron Vance will officiate with burial at Southside Memorial Park, Southside. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.

Mr. Cleveland was a resident of Southside for over 40 years. He graduated from Susan Moore High School, attended Snead State College, received a B.S. degree in vocational education from Auburn University and a six-year degree in school administration from UAB. He taught shop at Southside High School and was principal of the Etowah County Vocational School. After retiring from teaching, he was the director of vocational services at Darden Rehab Foundation. He was an avid Auburn fan and an avid rabbit hunter. He was once known for raising some of the best beagle dogs in Etowah County. Because of this, Pat Dye, the former football coach at Auburn University, requested a pair of beagle puppies which he did receive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lilla Cleveland; wife, Onzelle Hopwood Cleveland; sister, Jean Bohannon; brother, Jimmy Cleveland; brother-in-law, Bryce Bohannon; and sister-in-law, Annie Ruth Cleveland.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Gibson Cleveland; daughter, Susan Kincaid, Merritt Island, Fla.; sons, Bert (Cheryl) Cleveland, Lebanon, Tenn., and Art (Linda) Cleveland, Southside; stepson, Brian (Donna) Gibson, Honea Path, S.C.; stepdaughter, Kim (Michael) Ward, Lebanon, Tenn.; brothers, Guy Cleveland, Snead, Earl (Judy) Cleveland, Brunswick, Ga., and Charles (Helen) Cleveland, Snead; sisters, Rebecca (Jack) VanSandt, Snead, Merideth Odom, Springville, and Joan Croft, Gainesville, Fla.; brother-in-law, John Hopwood, Nashville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Barbara Cleveland, Gainesville, Fla.; grandsons, Miles and Cole Kincaid, Noah Cleveland and Hunter Cleveland; granddaughters, Rachel Goodson and Allison Cleveland, step-granddaughters, Megan Gibson and Kayla and Katrina Ward; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who were loved dearly.

Pallbearers will be Ray Berry, Trey Downey, Mike Griffin, David Hood, Philip Cleveland and Danny McDill.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mason Caldwell, Jon Steward, Brad Williams, Chester Berry, Benny Joe Brown and all his breakfast buddies at Jack's.

Special thanks to the nursing staff at UAB ninth floor, Dr. Jason Ayers, Dr. Robert Kimberly, Dr. Charlie Scott and Dr. Shipchandler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southside United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 tonight at Southside United Methodist Church.
