Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Collier-Butler Chapel for the Rev. Jack Estes Bright, 86, Gadsden, who passed from this earthly life to his heavenly home on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008. The Rev. Julian Knight will officiate with burial to follow at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Services directing.

A Missionary Baptist minister for 53 years, the Rev. Bright served churches throughout Etowah County and touched many lives as pastor, minister and friend. He loved his God, his beautiful family and all the blessings and beauty of life. The Rev. Bright was born in Atlanta, Ga., but spent most of his life in Etowah County. He attended Etowah High School and the University of Alabama. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a gunner aboard the USS Nevada.

The Rev. Bright was preceded in death by his parents, Ewing St. John and Sarah Gertrude Harrison Bright; sisters, Elizabeth Strickland Powell, Louise Jeffers and Ruby Jo Brown; brother, John H. Bright; and great-great-grandson, John Bainbridge Roberson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 64 years, Catherine Brewer Bright; children, Jacklynn "Patsy" (John S.) Roberson, David (Elizabeth) Bright, Robert (Connie) Bright and Sherry (Lynn) McCary; grandchildren, Eric (Lori) Roberson, Christian (Leann) Roberson, Tracy (Rusty) Edwards, David (Laura) Bright, Josh (Amy) McCary, Jason Hilton and Josh Garner; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Sarah (Dorsey) Simmons, Jewel (Earl) Sosebee and Janice (Lee) Grimm; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

The family requests no flowers and all donations be made to a favorite charity.

Special thanks to Dr. H. Patel, Dr. V. Narayan, Dr. G.P. Walker III and the staff of CCU and seventh floor of Riverview Regional Medical Center.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
