Service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Green Pasture, for Mr. Damien Lamar Carstarphen, 32, Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Gadsden, who died Saturday, July 25, 2009. Cremation will be held. Watson & Sons Funeral Home directing. At 12 years, Damien joined First Baptist Church. In later years, he became superintendent of the Sunday school. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1997. During his basketball career, he earned a scholarship to a college in Fort Sill, Okla. He served in the military, receiving an honorable discharge. He is survived by his wife, Tonya L. Carstarphen; daughter, Cianna Carstarphen, Killeen, Texas; mother, Carmen Carstarphen, Gadsden; father, Willie Lee Harris, Montgomery; grandmother, Leila Baker, Gadsden; sister, Ida Rea Williams, Gadsden; great-aunts and uncles, Ida Lee Williams, Ernest L. King, Gadsden, and Woodrow Wilson, Montgomery; aunts, Bonita Mitchell, Atlanta, Ga., Alecia (Pee) Pimberbon, Killeen. Texas, M.L. Carstarphen, Gadsden; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be this afternoon.
