?Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, Gadsden, for Mr. Ivan Sovory Hawkins, 48, Gadsden. The Rev. Eugene Herron will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Watson & Sons Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Ivan Sovory was born Sept. 17, 1961, in Gadsden, when God placed him in the care of his parents, John Leon and Shirley Hawkins.
As a child he united with Union Baptist Church and later Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Anniston, always in the music ministry of all churches.
He attended elementary school at St. Martin DePorre Catholic School and Gadsden city schools.
He was employed with Badcock Home Improvement and other furniture stores. He was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
His earthly journey was completed on Friday, March 19, 2010, at St. Vincent's Hospital, Birmingham.
Ivan was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Knight.
He leaves to cherish his memories, Ivan Hawkins Jr., Fort Payne; Devan'e Hawkins, Anniston; mother, Shirley Hawkins; father, John Leon (Laura) Hawkins; sisters, Angela Swain, Christalyn Threat, Valancia (the Rev. Eugene) Herron and LaJean Hawkins, Cedartown, Ga.; brothers, Juan Leon (Myrna) Hawkins, Killeen, Texas, John Leon Hawkins Jr., Hoover; aunts, Beulah (Edward) Blue, Alexandria, Bernice (John) Thrash, Maesha Vernon, Raleigh, N.C.; uncles, Fred Hawkins, Gadsden, Charles (Julia) Cash, Marion, Leonard White, Willie D. Wynn, St. Petersburg, Fla., Leonard White, Rome, Ga., Billy LaCount, Gadsden, Preston (Charlene) Jackson, Silver Springs, Md.; 15 nieces; 19 great-nieces and nephews; a loving and faithful friend, Rita Ward (Myia, Ryan, Dan), Birmingham; and other relatives and friends.
