Mr. Roy Edward Ellis was born the seventh child of nine on March 7, 1924, in Alabama City, Ala., to the union of Ross Whitlock and Mable Lucy Roberts Ellis.
The Guest Book is expired.
Roy served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Roy later united into the bonds of holy matrimony to Ms. Guinevere Dieu on March 28, 1948. This union was blessed with three sons, David, William and Roy.
The young couple resided in California, where Roy was employed with the Santa Fe Railroad as a conductor for some 35 years. While in California, Roy began a diligent study of the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. The teachings he found in the Bible to be true gave him strong conviction that led him to symbolize his dedication to the only true God Jehovah by water submersion on Aug. 5, 1966, at the Canada International Convention.
After retiring in 1984, Roy and his family relocated to Gadsden. He enjoyed trains and fishing, but of all else he devoted more time to spiritual pursuits and seeking first Jehovah's Kingdom.
Roy was no stranger to death, as his parents, Ross and Mable; siblings, James, Ruby, Lily, Marie, L.C., R.W. and Ronel; and son, William Ross, preceded him in death. Roy had a hope of a resurrection and being reunited with his loved ones on a paradise Earth where the former things have passed way. This was something he preached in his ministry and instilled in his family. So as he peacefully slept his way into Jehovah's memory on the morning of Friday, July 6, 2012, at his residence, Roy had a hope of being awakened to live forever with his loved ones.
Roy's love for his family was no secret, as he leaves to cherish his loving memories, his devoted wife of 64 years, Guinevere Dieu Ellis; sons, David Edward (Tammy) Ellis, Roy Ellis, all of Gadsden; daughter-in-law, Julie Ellis; 12 grandchildren, Aaron Ellis, Joel (April) Ellis, Jason (Stephanie) Ellis, Cassandra (Josh) Reynolds, Matthew Ellis, Nathan (Christine) Ellis, Luke (Hannah) Ellis and Christopher Ellis; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Ivan Bufford Ellis, Biggs, Calif.; special friend, Terry Ellis; a host of many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 237 Goldenrod Ave., Jim Gregerson, officiating.
Cremation service was provided by Adams-Buggs Funeral Service.
