Mrs. Joyce Pitman Alford, 81, of Gadsden, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013. The Rev. Craig Pitman, son, will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services of Gadsden will be directing.

Mrs. Alford was a longtime resident and native of Gadsden, where she was active in the community. She was a member of Rainbow Church of Christ and was a professional Realtor. Her first husband, Sam Pitman, built the Pitman Theatre. Her second husband, Jerry Alford, was the director of the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Gadsden. She was an avid Auburn fan.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Samuel "Sam" Pitman Jr. and Jerry Arnold Alford; son, Charles Kimbrough "Kim" Pitman; parents, Agnes Gentry and T.O. Gentry; and brother, Tim A. Gentry.
Survivors include her son, Craig Gentry Pitman and daughter-in-law, Sherre Waters Pitman; and daughter-in-law, Noel Haucke Pitman; grandchildren, Dabney Pitman, Elizabeth Pitman McGraw and grandson-in-law, Michael McGraw, Mary-Chris Pitman, Caroline Pitman; great-granddaughter, Lillian McGraw; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to extend thanks to the eighth-floor nurses and staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center and Dr. Steve Sanders.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Big Oak Boys' Ranch, 250 Jake Mintz Road, Gadsden, AL 35903; and A New Leash on Life, a no kill animal shelter, P.O. Box 221, Brownsboro, AL 35741.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home with a graveside service at 4 p.m. at Crestwood Cemetery.
