Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Collier-Butler Chapel for Bobby Joe Golden, 78, who passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013. The Rev. Bruce Word will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremations Services is directing.

Mr. Golden was born and raised in Etowah County. He was a 1953 graduate of Gadsden High School and attended Auburn University. Mr. Golden was in the Air National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves. He was heavily involved in community services and was one of the founders of Emergency Medical Responders in Southside. He was a volunteer fireman for Southside and an Etowah County Reserve Deputy Sheriff. He served as past chairman of the Southside Water Department and as a former City Councilman in Southside. He was a longtime member of the Rainbow Church of Christ, where he was heavily involved in World Bible School, the Jail Ministry, as well as served as an elder. He was a past member of the East Gadsden Church of Christ, where he was head of the education department.
Mr. Golden was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Carol Elizabeth Lasseter Golden; parents, Lonnie and Delia Golden; and brother, Billy Ray Golden.
He is survived by his wife, Polly Lewis Golden; daughters, Cindy (Michael) McGuire, Vicky (Michael) Lamb and Christy (Ben) Morton; son, James (Jana) Golden; grandchildren, David (Erin) McGuire, Diana (Nathaniel) Couch, Kathryn McGuire, Stacy Shelton, Stephanie (Josh) Bellew, Aubree Neal, Bradley Neal, Lainey Golden, Grant Golden and Amanda (Jon) Miller; great-grandchildren, Lillian McGuire, Aiden McGuire and Zane Miller; stepchildren, Delbra (Alex) Crowell, Joyce (Maurice) Edward and Bobby (Randall) Eden; step-grandchildren, Hannah Crowell, Mason Crowell, Martina (Donnie) Smith, Melissa McKee and Isaiah McKee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael McGuire, Michael Lamb, Ben Morton, David McGuire, Bradley Neal, Josh Bellew, Alex Crowell and Grover Golden.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Malone, Ray Cox, Steve Worley, Sorrell Wesson and Terry Jackson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Rainbow Omega Inc. or

Visitation will be Saturday, April 20, 2013, from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
