Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Funeral Chapel for Lonnie Arthur Cheaves Jr., 78, Gadsden, who died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013. The Revs. Jay Stewart and Larry Garrard will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory directing.
Mr. Cheaves was born in Altoona in 1935 and graduated from Etowah High School in 1953. He served in the Army National Guard in Collinsville, AL. Mr. Cheaves was employed at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 42 years. He was a member and deacon at Dwight Baptist Church and also a member of the Hader Kline Sunday School class. He attended the Elliott Nutrition Center and ministered to the homebound. He was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed time spent with his friends at the food court in the Gadsden Mall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Cheaves Sr. and Cora Lee Cheaves; brothers, Larry and Kenneth Cheaves.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eleanor Ruth Cheaves, Gadsden; sons, Arthur (Nancy) Cheaves and Jerry (Tootsie) Cheaves; grandchildren, Michala Wilson and Katie Cheaves; special friends, Charlotte and David Pruett.
Pallbearers: Deacons of Dwight Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers please make checks available to Dwight Baptist Church New Life Center.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
