Billie Balenger Obituary
Born April 15, 1930, the first child of Willard L. and Macie Gulledge, Billie Jo attended Hokes Bluff School and New Bethel Church. Billie spent much of her life as a homemaker, while caring for a husband and rearing three children. She was quite adept at "stretching dollars" by sewing clothing for her family, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables from the annual garden and carefully managing the household finances. She entered the public work sector at age 35 with General Time and later worked at Emco East and Mid-South Electric. She attended East Gadsden and Westside Churches of God for many years. Her happiest times were spent with family at home and with numerous friends that she and her husband met while camping at Tannehill and various camping areas over the years. Billie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ralph Balenger; her son, Danny E. Balenger; her parents; two brothers, Maurice and Jim Gulledge; and two infant grandsons.
She is survived by her daughter, Belinda (Herb) Rothrock; son, Ralph Maurice (Valerie) Balenger, Gadsden; grandchildren, Dr. Weston Rothrock, Birmingham, Jessica Rothrock, Huntsville, Brent (Amy) Balenger, Gadsden, Brandon (Emily) Balenger, Southside, Heath (Candace) Balenger, Tuscaloosa, Karla and Adrianne Balenger, Gadsden; great-grandchildren, Danny Talen Balenger, Tuscaloosa, Maleah Grace Bearden and soon-expected, Avah Marie Odessa Horne of Gadsden; step-great-grandchildren, Dylan and Tanner; sisters, Marguerite Ellis, Patricia (Don) Richey and Joan (William) McIntosh; brother-in-law, Roy (Pauline) Balenger; and many nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt and grateful thank you to Carol, Debbie, Janice and the other caregivers for making Billie's last days pleasant and comfortable. A very special thank you to Billie's last best friend, Christine Harpe.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home Monday.
