James Clarence Inzer Jr.

James Clarence Inzer Jr., 84, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007. Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry Fuhrman and Dr. Jon Appleton will officiate. A family graveside and burial will follow at Forrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at the Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel, and at the church one hour prior to the service, as the body lies in repose.

Mr. Inzer was born on March 20, 1923, in Gadsden, the son of James Clarence Inzer and Alice W. Inzer, who preceded him in death along with his sister, Martha W. Inzer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan Cantrell Inzer; son, James C. Inzer III (Ann); daughter, Joan Inzer Cash (Thomas); son, Craig Gordon Inzer (Mary); grandchildren, Catherine Inzer Coltharp (Doug), Sally Inzer Morano (Spence), James C. Inzer IV, Thomas T. Cash III, Catherine Cash Larkin (Ben), Craig Gordon Inzer Jr. and John Medlin Inzer; great-grandchildren, Ted Coltharp, Ann Winston Morano, Spence Morano Jr., James Morano and Cate Larking; brother-in-law, Dr. Craig G. Cantrell (Gloria); sister, Alice Donald MacNeill (Roy); and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Inzer was a veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart for injuries received in France in the fall of 1944. He received undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Alabama, and practiced law in Gadsden from 1949 until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Etowah County and Alabama Bar Associations and was widely respected by his fellow attorneys. He was a director of Alabama Power Company, Life Insurance Company of Alabama and American National Bank. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Gadsden, serving as a deacon, trustee and longtime member of the Hickman-Rayburn Sunday School class.

Pallbearers will be his sons, grandson, sons and grandsons-in-law.

The family requests no flowers, and that in lieu thereof, memorials be made to your favorite charity.
