EMORY HEMPHILL, 90

Gainesville - Emory Hemphill Brandenburg, age 90, of Gainesville, FL, formerly of Homestead, FL, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2014 at Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center.

Emory was born in Homestead, FL on April 15, 1924 to the late Emory H. and Nina Mae Scott Brandenburg. Upon graduation from high school in 1941, he attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) for one year before entering the Army Air Corp in 1942. He was a North American B-25 Mitchell pilot for three years during World War II. After the war, he enrolled at the University of Georgia where in 1949 he received a Bachelor's of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the College of Pharmacy. After graduation, he married Jenoise Land and moved to South Miami, FL, where he worked as a Pharmacist. In 1951, he moved to Homestead, FL when he and a partner opened up Royal Palm Drugs. During the following years, Emory and Jenoise were blessed with three children. In 1985, he married Elaine J. Quillen. Emory continued to own and operate Royal Palm Drugs until he retired in 1988 and moved to Gainesville, FL.

Emory was an avid football fan, particularly the Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed golfing, salt water fishing, and traveling. He and Elaine took many trips throughout the United States as well as abroad.

Emory is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elaine J. Brandenburg, his daughter Vicki (Rod) Miller of Fayetteville, GA; sons, Scott (Mirtha) Brandenburg of High Springs, FL and Mike (Kathy) Brandenburg of Blairsville, GA; brother, Robert (Jonnie) Brandenburg of Cape Coral, FL; step-daughters, Karen (Donnie) Love of Alachua, FL and Jana Quillen of Alachua, FL; grandchildren, Stephen Miller of Atlanta, GA, Lindsey Miller of Atlanta, GA, Joey Rapisardo of Tallahassee, FL, Justin Quillen of Alachua, FL, Colton Quillen of Alachua, FL, Jessica O'Neal of High Springs, FL, Nicole Brandenburg of High Springs, FL; and great-granddaughter, Haylee O'Neal of High Springs, FL. Emory is also survived by his faithful canine companion "Jazz", as well as numerous cousins, nieces, grand-nieces and friends.

At Emory's request, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Emory's name to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
