She is survived by 4 children, Nakeria King, William King Jr., Tyrel King and Christopher King; mother, Alice Griffin; father, Herman McClendon; 10 siblings, Lawanda Jones, Christine White, Johnny Coleman, Darrick Bell, Cleveland Griffin, Chris Griffin, Lewis McClendon, Greg McClendon, Terry McClendon and Hermie McClendon. The Services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016, 11:00am at St. John Missionary Baptist Church (11030 N.W. 30th Ave. Chiefland, Florida). MENDOZA, DAWN STEPHENS Dawn Stephens Mendoza, age 62 of Newberry, FL passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 with her beloved cat 'Shadow'. She was born June 17, 1954 in Jacksonville, FL to Foy W. and Myra Macy Stephens. Dawn was raised in Gainesville and graduated from PK Yonge. She retired from the University of Florida Agriculture and Biological Engineering Department. Dawn loved the outdoors, especially the beach. She was preceded in death by her father, Foy W. Stephens, sister, Robin Little and brother, Rick Stephens. Dawn is survived by her mother, Myra Stephens of Gainesville, FL; daughters, Michelle Clark (Gregory) of Lewiston, MI, Amanda G. Mendoza (Troy Beckham) of Newberry, FL; brothers, Scott Stephen of Belleview, FL, Shawn Stephens of Homosassa, FL; grandchildren, Vincent and Haylee Clark and one on the way, Cayden Beckham. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street. The family will receive friends Monday, October 3, 2016, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. MYERS, DEANN STANFORD, 79 Deann Stanford Myers, 79, of Newberry, Florida, passed away on September 18, 2016 in Gainesville, Florida. Visitation will be at 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Forest Meadows Funeral Home located at 725 NW 23rd Ave. Gainesville Florida, 32609 Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Oak Dale Baptist Church 17015 West Newberry Road, Newberry, Florida 32609 with the Pastor James Taylor of Oak Dale Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows West Cemetery. Deann was born in Live Oak, Florida to David Stanford and Bertha Stanford on April 19, 1937. She went to school in Live Oak and attended Suwannee High School where she was a member of the BETA Club, participated in basketball and received the Most Athletic Female Award. She graduated in 1955 from Suwannee High School and was awarded an Academic scholarship to attend the Massey Business College in Jacksonville, Florida where she graduated in 1957. After graduating from Massey Business College she married Leonard Herbert Myers Jr. of Mount Vernon, Ohio on August 25, 1957 in Live Oak, Florida. She worked as a Claims Representative for Social Security until she retired and became a Long Haul Truck Driver with her husband Leonard H. Myers. Deann's hobbies consisted of bowling, working in the yard and being part of The Gator Nation. She loved being a wife, mother and cherished being around and taking care of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Deann is preceded in death by her father David Stanford, mother Bertha Stanford, brother Charles Stanford, and brother Harold Stanford. Deann is survived by her husband Leonard H. Myers Jr. of Newberry, FL, sons Leonard Michael Myers (Connie) of Mayo, FL, Leonard David Myers (Karen) of High Springs, FL, sister Rae Dunbar of Gainesville, FL, sister Elaine Holmes (Ron) of Gainesville, FL, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Grandsons Morgan Myers, Blake Downs, Tyler Myers, Noah Myers, Barney Osteen and Nephew Chuck Stanford. Memorials may be given to Forest Meadows Funeral Home (flowers) and to Oak Dale Baptist Church (donations) where she attended church and was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, Gainesville, FL.

PENCE, JAMES AKERS  
PENCE, JAMES AKERS James Akers Pence passed away while working in his beloved butterfly yard at dusk on Sunday evening, September 25, 2016. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on February 10, 1948 and during his high school years, he participated as a singer and musician with the Retreat Singers, an Episcopalian student group which traveled and performed internationally. Akers continued to play music with his Retreat Singer friends whenever he visited Little Rock. He graduated with a degree in English from Hendrix College in Arkansas in 1970. After graduation, he moved to New York City to study with the Arica Institute where he met Linda Hoolahan in 1976. They married in 1984 and lived in Brooklyn while working as part of the teaching teams for the School of Tai Chi Chuan and the Arica Institute until 1996. They moved to Gainesville in 1997 and Akers attended graduate school at the University of Florida where he earned a Ph.D. in Entomology in December 2005. He worked as a researcher for the endangered Miami Blue and Schaus Swallowtail butterflies. He dazzled his friends with his curiosity and excitement regarding spiders, butterflies, and other pollinators. He is survived by his wife, Linda Pence, his sister, Marilela Pence Bloom, his nephew, Ellis Bloom and his niece Liz Hartwell. Akers will be laid to rest in the Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery. PIERCE, EARL ACE  
PIERCE, EARL ACE 74 Earl Ace Pierce, 74 of Gainesville passed away on September 21, 2016 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Earl was born on May 4, 1942 in Flint, Michigan. He retired from General Motors after many years of service. He loved fishing, pool, hunting, but his family brought the most joy to his life. Mr. Pierce was active with The Eagles and Moose Lodge. Earl leaves behind his loving family his wife, Barbara Pierce; his children, Dennis Pierce, James and Dawn Pierce, John and Jacqueline Bunting, Clyde and Jeanne Bunting, Kimberly Bunting; two sisters, Lori Swinger and Sandra Summers; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Clara Pierce. Earl leaves us with a quote from Fred Bear, 'When a hunter is in a tree stand with moral values and with the proper hunting ethics and richer for the experience, that hunter is 20 feet closer to God.' POOLE, MAURICE DOMINIC Mr. Maurice Dominic Poole, age 35, passed away September 18th, 2016 at Shands Hospital at UF. Mr. Poole is a former Cook who worked for several Restaurants in the Gainesville area, and was a graduate of Eastside High School, class of 2000. He was preceded in death by his mother; Linda K. Leath, father; Nathaniel Poole, grandmother, Ceretha B. Leath, and grandfather; Charlie Frank Leath, Sr. Maurice is survived by his brother; Anthony E. Leath (Tamika), Atlanta, GA, nieces, Grace, Gabriele, nephew; London, three aunts, five uncles, and three great aunts. RICHMOND, EMORY MARTIN Emory Martin Richmond, born September 24, 2012 in Vancouver, BC, left this world on the evening of September 5, just before his fourth birthday. As his presence in our lives was all encompassing, his absence leaves heartache and a longing to know that he lives on in a more beautiful way than ever before. Emory is survived by his parents, Ed and Andrea Richmond and his sister, Meryl, of Stillwater, OK. He is also survived by his grandparents, Monica and Terry Richmond of Syracuse, NY, and Susan and Dale Turlington of Gainesville, FL. He is also survived by his Uncle Bryan Richmond and wife Kayla of Syracuse, NY; Aunt Alicia Phillips and husband Russ of High Springs, FL; Aunt Kristy Thompson and husband Will of Deland, FL; Aunt Marabeth Ward and husband Mike of Wesley Chapel, FL; Uncle John Turlington and wife Hillary of Gainesville, FL, as well as numerous cousins. All are invited to Emory's memorial service at 10:00 am on September 24, 2016 at Sangre Ridge Elementary School in Stillwater, OK. Childcare will be provided. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the following organizations whose compassionate work helps other children and families in their struggles with pediatric cancer: St. Baldrick's, CERN, OK Kids Korral, Ronald McDonald House, Give Kids the World Village, and British Columbia Children's Hospital. ROBINSON, JESSIE DOUGLAS, 79 Mr. Jessie Douglas Robinson, age 79, transitioned to his Heavenly home surrounded by his loved ones on September 22, 2016 in Gainesville, FL. He was born in Tallahassee, FL, on October 31, 1936. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-one years, Verdell Washington Robinson, and his parents; Jessie and Lillie Taylor Robinson. Mr. Robinson is survived by his sister; Lillie Ferrell, five children; Myra King (Gregory), Joan Bennett (Bruce), Darryl Robinson (Carol), Jo Linda Byrd (Michael), and Johnny Mitchell, step-son; James Harris (Ruthell), Orlando, FL, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, as well as numerous special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services for Mr. Robinson will be held, 11:00am, Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Gregory E. ROTHRAUFF, ALICE LOUISE  
ROTHRAUFF, ALICE LOUISE (HERR) Born October 9, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio, she spent her childhood years in Dayton and in Bluffton, Ohio on her family's farm. She graduated from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio and attended a Conservative Biblical Christian school before teaching first and third grade elementary school. In January 1954 she married Conrad Rothrauff, a college classmate, of Cleveland, Ohio. Three children were born to the couple: Linda in 1955 in Fort Campbell Kentucky, Charles in 1957 in Columbus, Ohio and Nancy in 1959 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. She was a loving mother and devoted wife, residing in Potsdam, New York for 24 years before retiring to Gainesville, Florida with her husband in 1988. She died peacefully on September 25, 2016 in Sterling, Virginia where she recently resided with her son and daughter-in-law. She is survived by three children, Linda Ramis, Charles Rothrauff and Nancy Bartlett, two grandchildren, Cassandra Rothrauff and Catherine (Erik) Saylor, a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Rothrauff, and two sons-in-law, Luis Ramis and Patrick Bartlett. She is predeceased by her husband, parents and sister. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 3rd, 2016 at the WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street in Gainesville, Florida with Reverend Carl Romey officiating. She will be buried at Countryside Cemetery in Gainesville, Florida beside her husband. She was a devout Christian who studied the bible and read extensively about Christianity.
