Anne Laird Spain, aged 89, died October 6, 2012, at Oak Hammock in Gainesville, FL.

Born June 6th, 1923 in Atlanta GA, to Thomas and Ella (Braswell) Laird, Anne moved to Gainesville when she was five and her father came to work at Stringfellow Supply. She graduated from PKY and went to Florida State College for Women (FSU), where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. In 1943 she dropped out of college to marry Frank O. Spain before he went off to fly P-51's in the European theater. From 1962 to her retirement in 1990, she was the manager and co-owner of Spain's Oil Heat in Gainesville. She was a member of the Junior League and the Day Lilly Circle of the Gainesville Garden Club.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, a few months before their 50th wedding anniversary. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Tom and Susan Baber Spain of Gainesville, and granddaughter Betsy Spain of NYC.

Funeral services will be 2:00 Friday, October 12, at Milam Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
