NELSON, BETTY ANN
Betty Ann (Foxx) Nelson, 71, departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville surrounded by her children and loved ones. Betty was a native of Gainesville, FL but resided in Palm Coast, FL. She was a member First Baptist Church of Palm Coast and served as a Greeter. Betty joined Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Gainesville at an early age.
Betty graduated in the class of 1960 from Lincoln High School; she earned her Bachelor degree from Edward Waters College in 1963 and her Master Degree from Florida A&M University in 1972. Betty retired as an Educator from Broward County Public Schools after 30 years.
Betty was a member of Queen Esther Chapter No.1 Order of Eastern Star, African American Cultural Society of Palm Coast, and she enjoyed Bowling where she bowled at Palm Coast Lanes of Palm Coast, Florida and Ormond Lanes and a member of TNBA of Jacksonville, Florida and spending time with her children and grand children.
Services for Betty will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1334 Northeast 4th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32641 in Gainesville, FL., and Rev. Samuel Seales, Pastor and Eulogist, Rev. Marie Herring officiating.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery under the care of Chestnut Funeral Home 18 N.W. 8th Ave. Gainesville, FL. Visitation Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, 3:00-7:00PM and on Wednesday at the church from 11:00AM until the hour of service.
Betty is survived by a son, William (Jacqueline) Nelson II from Triangle, VA, a daughter, Willette (Johnathan) Nelson-Prime Palm Coast, FL, five brothers, Charles (Dorothy) Foxx, Elexander Foxx, Douglas (Carolyn) Foxx, George (Evelyn) Foxx, and Ronald (Bonnie) Foxx, four sisters, Lois Stewart, Elizabeth (Carl) Ness, Tennie Mae Thomas, and Queen (Timothy) Hicks and six grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her father Mr. James E. Foxx, mother Mrs. Lois S. Foxx, and five brothers James, Samuel, Clarence, Fred and Earl.
