Gainesville - Betty was born in Gainesville, Florida, May 15, 1924. She died April 18, 2013, in Leesburg, Florida. Betty is the daughter of the late J.C. and Wortley Alday. She graduated from Gainesville High School and FSCW in Tallahassee. She was in the last graduating class of FSCW before it became FSU. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta, and served on the Student Council. Betty married the Rev. Dr. M. McCoy Gibbs, a United Methodist Minister. Their family includes, son, Rev. Dr. Robert M. Gibbs (Brenda) of Tallahassee, Fl., daughter, Jane Bouda (Michael), of Jacksonville, Fl., foster son, C. Roy Snyder (Sue) of North Palm Beach, Fl., four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. They served many churches and in Administrative positions for the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. Betty was a homemaker and an active volunteer in her local church, school, and community. She was the organizing President of the Auxiliary Unit at the Leesburg Regional Hospital, where her Husband served on the original Board of Trustees of the Hospital. She was a longtime member of the BH chapter of PEO, where she served a term as Chaplin, and on the Nominating Committee.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Gibbs will be held on Tuesday, 11:00 A.M., April 23rd in the Morrison United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Harrington, Bishop Kenneth Carter, and Rev. Karen Burris. Burial services will be at 3:00 P.M. in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gainesville, Florida.
