Williston, FL - Betty Smith Douglas, age 84 of Williston, FL passed away on Monday March 31, 2014 at her home, surrounded by family. She was born in Trenton, FL on June 14, 1929 to Radie Langford Perryman and Samuel L. Perryman. Betty was a talented seamstress who made wedding dresses and men's suits. She was also an excellent Southern cook, and owned a restaurant on Main Street in Williston in the 1950's. She retired as a District Manager for Avon. Betty loved flowers, and kept a beautiful yard, having won the award for "Yard of the Year" several times, as awarded by the Women's Club. Her yard was also featured in an article in the Gainesville Sun. Betty, was a loving wife to two husbands, and devoted to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her great great grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Williston. Recently, she began attending the Williston Church of God, where her mother, Radie Stanley was a lifetime member.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Pete Smith, and then by her second husband of five years, Edwin Douglas. Survivors include her children, Linda Smith (Harold) McGruther, Mark Henry (Linda) Smith, and Greta Smith (Sam) Rice, six grandchildren Evan (Vickie) Sullivan, Leah (Donald) Winter, Ansley (Casey) Thomason, Kyle Smith, Allison Smith, Melissa Rice and also, ten great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday April 4, 2014 at the Williston Church of God 850 SW 7th Street Williston, FL. There will be a visitation held Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Williston 339 East Noble Avenue Williston, FL. Interment will be next to her husband Pete Smith in the Orange Hill Cemetery in Williston.
