Gainesville - Bettye Jane Bauer Furnweger, 90, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Gainesville.

Bettye was born in Evansville, Indiana, on July 25th, 1922, to Delia Overfield and Elmer Bauer and was the older of two daughters. During World War II, she moved to Washington D.C. to work at the Pentagon, where she met Alfred, her loving husband of 65 years. Bettye enjoyed the exciting life of being a Navy wife by criss-crossing the USA and living in 11 different locations here and abroad with her husband and children. Bettye was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 40 years. She belonged to the United Methodist Women's order of St Luke and to the Russian ministry and was one of the early Board of Directors member of the Shepard Center. Bettye was a loving wife and a devoted mother and is survived by her husband Alfred and her sons, Charles of Fremont, CA and Wayne of Clarkesville, GA.

There will be a viewing on Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 5 to 7 PM at the Milam Funeral home, in Gainesville. Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 17, at 11 AM in the chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Avenue, Gainesville. Burial and a committal will be on Monday, May 20, at 11:30 AM, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, in Jacksonville, FL.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Bettye's name to Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Av, Gainesville, FL 32653.
