Edmund S. Holden, professor emeritus of English at the University of Florida, died October 17, 2013. He was 93 years old.

Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1920. He moved to Gainesville in 1957. He was a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He earned a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He taught in the English Department at the University of Florida from 1957-1980. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his son Robert Holden of New Orleans, Louisiana; his daughter Anita Holden Moak of Jacksonville, Florida; and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Ben's Place Services 4717 San Juan Ave., Jacksonville FL 32210. (Ben's Place provides shelter and recreational activities for disabled youth.) The interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, 401 S.E. 21st Ave., Gainesville, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday,
