MAXEY, ELIZABETH "BETTY" RAWLS MCLEOD
Roanoke, VA - Elizabeth (Betty) Rawls McLeod Maxey was born and raised in High Springs, FL. She attended Florida State University and moved to Roanoke, VA in 1960. Betty was a successful business woman. She started McLeod's Children's Center in 1962, she later owned and operated the Kiddie Korner on Jefferson St. in Roanoke, VA. In 1975 she entered into the real estate business, and in 1992 she and her husband, Sam Maxey, founded "For Sale By Owner" magazine.
Above all, Betty was a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother and aunt. We will always miss our Mom, Mommie-me, and Darlin'. We know she will be watching from Heaven's window and waiting at Heaven's gate.
In addition to her parents, Burton Hansel Rawls and Elizabeth Eville Rawls, Betty is predeceased by her husband, Samuel C. Maxey, and her beloved sister Carolyn Rawls Straley. She is survived by her three daughters, Linda McLeod Brown and her husband Rea, Sharon McLeod Mitchell, Lauren McLeod Neighbors and her husband Jerry, and son Mark A. McLeod. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Matthew E. Mitchell, Kevin M. Tabor, Andrew R. Brown and his wife Emily, Mary Elizabeth Brown, Emily Ann McDougall and her husband Joey, Brooks A. McLeod, Tobin A. McLeod, and Rosemary R. McLeod.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 6045 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.
The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. Thursday March 20, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, 2101 Jefferson Street, Roanoke, VA. Visitation will be held at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 222 N Main Street, High Springs, FL on Saturday March 22, 2014 from 12-1:00 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday March 22, 2014 at High Springs Cemetery in High Springs, FL.
