Gainesville - Hazel Diamond Krop (10-10-1916) died peacefully at the Village on Sunday, March 2, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, to whom she was married for almost 70 years. Hazel and Alfred were viewed by those who knew them as "the perfect couple" and by their son, Harry, as "the perfect parents." Harry, an only child, was blessed to have his mother in his life for over 70 years and to be able to see her smile, even at the end of her life, at the mention of her grandchildren (Ian, Lainie, and Alyssa) or her great-grandchildren (Sophie, Ethan, Isaac and Gabriel). She is also survived by her daughters in law, Dawn and Janet, and her grandchildren's spouses, Julie Krop, Jim Decker, and Josh Brandfon.

Hazel was born and raised in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Her parents were first generation immigrants from Eastern Europe and her father played professional baseball. Both she and Alfred were actively involved in their synagogue and Hazel was a former president of Hadassah. Al and Hazel spent the majority of their retirement years in Del Ray Beach. They traveled extensively, visiting Israel seven times. Hazel was an avid bridge player.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Congregation B'nai Israel Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hadassah, P.O. Box 358362, Gainesville, FL 32635.
