Howard Douglas Stapp III, age 57, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 8 at his home in Gainesville, FL. He was born on September 29, 1955, in Atlanta, GA to Howard and Jean Stapp of Orlando. He is a graduate of both Bishop Moore High School and the University of Florida
. He worked his entire professional career of 33 years at Gainesville Regional Utilities. Howard was a kind, caring, loving, big-hearted man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and coin collector. He was married on May 5, 2012 to the long time love of his life.
Howard was preceded in death by his father Howard Douglas Stapp Jr. and his niece Jamie Archer Roberts. Howard is survived by his wife; his mother Jean Stapp Provancha; sister Tracy and her husband David Ring; sister Vicky Stapp Scott; brother Michael Stapp and his fiancée Tracey Rogers; sister Beth and her husband Daryl Lang; brother Peter and his wife Susan Stapp; nephews Christopher Scott, Michael Stapp, Matthew Stapp, Marshall Stapp and Chad Ring; niece Candace and her husband Danny Forrest, nieces Marissa Ring and Maitlin Stapp.
Visitation services for Howard will be held on Friday, March 15 from 5-7pm at DeGusipe Funeral Home and Chapel in Maitland, FL. Funeral mass services will be held on Saturday, March 16 at 1pm at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs, FL. Father Charles Mitchell and Monsignor Edward Thompson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Howard's honor to Alachua County Humane Society, 4205 NW 6th Street, Gainesville, FL 32609.
