Columbia - A service in loving memory of Jacquelyn L. Bartley, who died suddenly and peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, August 29, 2013, will be held at 11:00am, Friday, September 6, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery following the church ceremony. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013, from 6:00-8:00pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Jackie was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 6, 1960, the daughter of the late Thomas D. Bartley and DeLois Walters Bartley. Jackie spent her early years and graduated high school in Gainesville, Florida where her father was a noted Thoracic Surgeon and practiced for many years. During her youth in Gainesville she was an active member of 4-H, winning national titles in both Meat and Horse Judging. She also showed horses on a national level in the American Quarter Horse Association. She went on to earn a bachelor of sciences degree from Texas A & M University in agriculture economics, a Masters of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina, a Juris Doctorate from the University Of South Carolina School Of Law, and an LL.M. in taxation from the University Of Florida School Of Law. She practiced in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Estate Planning and Probate. She was a member of the South Carolina and Richland County Bar Associations, and a member of the American Bar Association. In 1991 she was certified as a specialist to practice in the area of Taxation Law by the South Carolina Supreme Court. Jackie was a founding Board Member of the South Carolina Women's Lawyers Association, and spent many hours providing pro bono services through her practice.

Jackie was always grateful for small favors yet remarkably generous in return. She was a consummate volunteer for neighborhood organizations, professional associations and many Columbia festivals and events. She valued her friends immensely and created a large coterie of people from varied backgrounds who became friends because she made it easy. She held many elegant and memorable holiday and special event meals and dinner parties and was a gifted chef, consummate host, and dedicated foodie. She cared so much for her family and friends, the city of her choice, traveling, politics, litigation and participation. She made a difference in so many lives. She died too soon and will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her sister, Marianne Bartley-Lehman and her husband, Jeffrey of Aiken, SC; brother, Thomas E. Bartley; an uncle, Jack Bartley; an aunt, Madge Daberkow; a niece and nephew; loved one, Brent Sanchez of Cedar Key, Florida; and many, many loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in memory of Jackie be made to Historic Columbia Foundation, Richland County C.A.S.A., or SC Children's Trust Fund.
