James (Jim) Clifford Davis beloved husband, father, and brother died Sunday, September 8, 2013 in Gainesville, Florida after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Born March 27, 1941 in Alma, Georgia to Edith Davis-Bennett and Edgar Davis, "Clifford", as he was known to his family, was the youngest of six children. He was an avid high school athlete and lettered in basketball. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and served 2 1/2 years in Berlin, Germany during heightened U.S. - Soviet tensions.

Upon returning from Europe, Jim began his life-long career as an International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) elevator repairman in Jacksonville, Florida. There he met and married the love of his life Linda L. Myers and raised four children. His career eventually took him and his family to Gainesville where he worked at the University of Florida and Shands Hospital. Jim was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. Jim and Linda retired in 2001 and moved to Alachua, Florida where he continued to be a die-hard Gators fan and all-around home gardener. In addition to previously touring Europe, in retirement Jim and Linda saw 49 states and three more countries.

Jim has been called to his Lord's home but will be ever celebrated on this earth by a blessed family and host of friends. "Clifford" was preceded in passing by his mother, father and sisters Evelyn and Emily. He is survived by his sister Eloise, and brothers William and Edsol. Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda, their four children, Jeff, Bruce, Janice, and Vicki, and seven grandchildren.

The will be a memorial at the Haven Hospice Chapel at 4200 NW 90th Blvd, Gainesville at 12:00 PM, September 17th 2013. Internment will take place Wednesday at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road Jacksonville, FL at 12:15 PM.
