Gainesville - Jean Bennett Talley passed away on April 17, 2013.

Born in Portland Tennessee 07-07-21. Jean spent most of her youth in Bradenton, FL. She graduated from FSU in 1943 where she got a job as a cartographer in Washington D.C. during WWII with the Army Corps of Engineers. She married Benjamin (Pete) H. Bennett, of Morganton North Carolina, and was a devoted army wife until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1961 when they moved to Gainesville, FL. Jean returned to school at the U of F and earned her Masters Degree in Childhood Education. She taught first grade in Levy and Alachua counties for 19 years until retirement in 1985. A great Gator fan, she was a season ticket holder for 45 years. Jean was an avid gardener, member of the Garden Club, Gainesville Woman's Club, and numerous other organizations. She volunteered tirelessly, chauffeured her friends, and still found time to read voraciously. Jean and family lived in the Far East and Europe during Pete's army career. During her retirement she continued to travel both in the United States and internationally.

Preceded in death by her husband Pete, and her two younger brothers Walter R. Talley and Robert Talley. She is survived by her sons, Stephen R. Bennett, Basalt CO; Richard and Marlene Bennett, Archer FL; Bruce and Kaye Bennett, High Springs FL; grandchildren Christina, Rachel, Ethan, Caroline and Kelly Bennett; and great-grand children Layla, Jade and Cora.

Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Northwest Baptist Church, 5515 NW 23rd Ave. Gainesville, FL with Dr. Craig Tauton officiating.

Arrangements are being conducted by Countryside Funeral Home in Anthony, FL.
