John Marshall Danielsen was born on December 19th, 1921 in Putnam Hall, Florida. He attended Carson Newman College and then attending Yale for a Masters in Divinity. He married Adele Lillian Zele from Torrington, CT in June of 1945. After graduation, he joined the Navy as a Chaplain. In his 30 years of service, he was involved in WWII
, the Korean War
and served in various stations during the Vietnam War
as the Eighth Naval District Chaplain in New Orleans and the Force Chaplain of the Pacific Theater in San Diego, CA. He was the first Naval Chaplain to serve as Chaplain at the Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, NY where he was instrumental in the design and building of a memorial interfaith Chapel. After retiring from the Navy, he served as an interim pastor for the Sante Fe River Baptist Association where he also counseled area pastors. He was called to build a Baptist mission church in Silver Springs Shores, FL which is now the First Baptist Church of Silver Springs Shores. From there he retired once again to the family farm. He departed for a reunion with his wife of 68 years on January 15, 2014 and is survived by his loving family.
Services will be at 2:00P.M. Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Hawthorne with Bro. Charles Litzell and Chaplain Jack Golie officiating. Burial will follow at Anticoch Cemetery in Island Grove. The visitation will be Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Hawthorne from 4-6 P.M.
