Alachua - Mrs. Joyce M. Hathcock, age 87, passed away July 27, 2013 at her home in Alachua, Florida.

Mrs. Hathcock was a life-long resident of Alachua, FL, she graduated from Florida A&M University, BS degree, and Indiana University, MS degree, and was a member of Zeta Phi Beta, Sorority. She was a member of St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served as the Church Secretary, Organist, Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, the Steward's Board, and Church School Superintendent. Mrs. Hathcock was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and Matron of Heroine of Jericho.

She is survived by her husband, Cleather Hathcock, Sr., Alachua, Florida; children, Cleather (Lynda) Hathcock, Jr., Alachua, Florida, Shirley (Winston) Willis, May Pen, Jamaica; siblings, James Emziah (Ruby), Chicago, Illinois, Ida Gomez, Evinston, Illinois; four grandchildren, Michael Willis, M.D., Kevin (Janet) Willis, MBA, Kurt Willis, Pharmd, Cleather H. Hathcock, III; special grandniece, Charmaine (Andrea) Willis Brooks; special grandnephew, Ricardo (Terri) Willis; great grandchildren, Arielle, Sydney, Kyle Willis; great grand nephews, Aston & Cameron Brooks; two godsons, Torrey Lee, and Lewis Lee.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hathcock will be held, 11:00am Saturday, August 3, 2013 at St. Luke A.M.E. Church, Alachua, Florida, Rev. Jesse Stelle officiating; burial will follow in Forest Meadows Central Memorial Park, Gainesville, Florida. Arrangements entrusted to Chestnut Funeral Home, Inc.

Mrs. Hathcock will repose in the Chestnut Memorial Chapel on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 2-7:00 pm, after which Zeta Phi Beta Sorority will conduct Fraternal Rites. Mrs. Hathcock will repose on Saturday at the Church from 10:00am until the hour of service. The cortege will form on Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hathcock, 14304 NW 142nd Ave., Alachua, Florida, at 10:15am.
