Lake Butler - Mr. Rance J. "R.J." Carroll, 91, of Lake Butler died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Carroll was born in Union County. He moved to Miami in 1938 before living in Orlando from 1946 to 1985 when he moved back to Lake Butler. He worked with the Customer Service Management System of the Bell Telephone System before retiring from AT&T in 1984. He was also a mounted police officer in Jacksonville.

He was a U.S. Marines veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. During his WWII service which spanned from February 1942 into the winter of 1945, he was assigned to Japan to lay cable after the "A" bomb was dropped in Nagasaki. He delayed his coming home which allowed two brothers to return home together.

He was a Protestant. He was the son of the late John W. and Amanda Hendricks Carroll.

Mr. Carroll is survived by: his wife of 27 years: Jeannette S. Carroll of Lake Butler, one daughter: Sue C. Langford of Orlando, two stepdaughters: Cynthia (husband Frank) Ball of New Smyrna Beach and Tina (husband Dennis) Cappolla of New Smyrna Beach, two sons: Richard L. Carroll of Paisley and Timothy W. Carroll of Orlando, two stepsons: Mark (wife Barbara) Jetton of New Smyrna Beach and James Jetton of New Smyrna Beach, one sister: Elva Cobb of Jacksonville, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren and 22 great step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 01, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler with Keith Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at Dekie Cemetery in Lake Butler.

Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at Archer Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.
