High Springs - Robert Edward Phoebus, Sr. of High Springs, FL passed away January 3, 2013 at the V.A. Medical Center in Lake City. He was 76.

Mr. Phoebus was born April 4, 1936 in Baltimore, MD to Atley Earl Phoebus and Ethel Fischer Phoebus. He moved to this area from Riverdale, GA in 1974. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was retired as a newspaper pressman and had worked for the Virginia Pilot and Ledger Star, Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Daytona Beach News Journal, Florida Times Union and Jacksonville Journal. He was also a correction officer with the Florida Department of Corrections.

Mr. Phoebus was a volunteer fireman for High Springs and a dispatcher for High Springs police department. He was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Floyd Phoebus of High Springs; son, Robert "Robbie" Phoebus, Jr. of Lake Butler; daughter, Sandra Phoebus Beach of Trenton, FL; eight grandchildren, Aaron Bruce, Brandon Beach, Robert E. "Trey" Phoebus III, Johnny Beach, Joey Beach, Justin Beach, Todd Johnston and Cora Johnston; two great grandchildren, Dolan and T.J. Beach.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church with Reverend James West officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Mt. Horeb Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Evans-Carter Funeral Home, High Springs, FL (386) 454-2444.
