Sherri Marie Aslakson, age 59, passed away at her home in Orange Park, Florida, on November 10. She was born on September 29, 1953, in Washington, D.C., to Wanda and Thomas Selph. Thomas died when Sherri was still an infant, and she was adopted by Robert Aslakson.

Sherri was preceded in death by her sister, Erica Aslakson, and her father, Robert Aslakson. She is survived by her mother Wanda Kramer, brother John Kramer (Donna), sisters Valerie Aslakson-Jennings (Bruce) and Margene Kramer Grant (Miles), nieces Haley Kramer and Sarah Jennings, nephews Justin Kramer and John Young.

Sherri lived most of her life in Florida, graduating from The Pensacola School of Liberal Arts with honors in 1971. In 1975, she received a bachelor's degree in biology from Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Sherri was, by nature, both very curious about life and very caring of others - traits that led her to her life's work of protecting the health and promoting the safety of industrial workers. She began her career as an Industrial Hygiene Inspector for the State of Kentucky Department of Occupational Safety and Health. In 1986, she returned to Florida to work in a similar capacity at the Orlando Naval Training Center and then for the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville until her passing. Sherri was regarded with great respect and affection by her co-workers.

All who knew Sherri know that she was truly devoted to her family and friends. She was supportive, generous and exceedingly thoughtful - always remembering birthdays and special occasions. She happily treated friends and family members - even their pets - to unexpected and carefully chosen gifts.

Sherri's sudden departure leaves many to cherish her memory and to miss her dearly. There will never be another Sherri Marie Aslakson.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on December 8 at 3:00 PM at the United Church of Gainesville, 1624 NW 5th Avenue, Gainesville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to the or to Safe Animal Shelter; 2913 County Road 220; Middleburg, FL 32068.
