Dr. Barbara Ellis Taylor, age 80, of Alachua, Florida passed away on December 7, 2012 after an extended illness. Dr. Taylor was Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida. She devoted her life to education for women and children.

She was born on March 23, 1932 in Marion County, Kentucky to parents Cecil Ellis and Alma Ellis. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Dr. Clifton Taylor; her son Brian Scott Taylor (Marie); her son Dr. Steven Ellis Taylor (Martha); and grandchildren Joshua Taylor, Amie Imler (Brandon), Travis Taylor, and Shelby Taylor. She is survived by sisters Jewell Deene Ellis, Shirley Sheperson, Wilma Ewbank, Kaye Thurman, Karen Marsee, and Marlena Ellis and brothers Dale Ellis, Darrell Ellis, and Barry Ellis. She was preceded in death by her brother Cecil Ellis, Jr.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville, Kentucky. The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home followed by burial at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, Kentucky. A memorial service will be held at the University City Church of Christ in Gainesville, Florida on January 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either of the following scholar-ship funds: The Dr. Barbara E. Taylor Fellowship for Graduate Studies in Family, Youth and Community Sciences at the University of Florida; or The Taylor Family Forestry Scholar-ship at the University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture.
