Richard "Dick" Eugene Frye, 81, passed away on February 3, 2013 in Jacksonville Beach, FL. He was born on Nov. 23, 1931 in Pulaski, VA. Dick proudly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He received a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from East Tennessee State College, and a Master's degree in Music Education from the University of Florida. He was an adored Band Director and Music Teacher for both middle and high school music programs for over 40 years. He began his teaching career in Tennessee, and then took a position at the Buchholz Junior High School in Gainesville, Florida, and later taught at Howard Bishop Junior High School. He then became the first band director at the new Buchholz High School when it opened in 1970. He continued teaching there for 24 years until he retired in 1994. His many students over the years remember him as an inspiring teacher who encouraged them to follow their passions and strive for perfection.

Dick was a member of Highlands Presbyterian Church, Gainesville, FL and loved fishing, playing piano, performing arts, and giving music lessons to his grandchildren. He was an avid Gator alumni and fan.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Frye; sons, Erik Frye (Cathie) and Blake Frye (Julie); daughter, Kathy Ferguson (David); brother, Mike Frye; sisters, Bonnie Jean Peck (Carl), Crystal Ruth Frye, Bettie Gay Bessette (Lance); grandchildren, Kristen Frye, McKenzie Frye, Marshall Frye, Brendan Frye, Patrick Frye, Ashley Ferguson and Erica Ferguson; and 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Bonnie Frye, and his brother and sister Douglas Frye and Marjorie Burchman .

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Highlands Presbyterian Church of Gainesville.
