Gainesville - Dr. Richard Lee Patterson, age 80 of Gainesville, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 in E.T. York Care Center.

He was born September 12, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to Walter and Margaret Davis Patterson. He served as a Navy Bombardier officer at the end of the Korean War. Dr. Patterson received his doctorate at the University of Michigan in Industrial Engineering. He was a professor at the University of Michigan and the University of Florida. Dr. Patterson was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Patterson; two sons, Charles Walter Patterson of Chicago, IL and William Richard Patterson and his partner, Robert Jarabek of Tampa, FL, as well as five grandchildren and two great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Patterson and sister, Carol Patterson Menning.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, June 28 2013 at 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, with Rev. David Leonard, officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
