Gainesville - Mrs. Betsy Loughrey Miller, 80, longtime resident of Gainesville, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at her home, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Miller was born on January 14, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Anne Flaherty and Charles Loughrey. She attended Elizabeth Seton High School and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She married Glenn C. Miller on August 27, 1955. Betsy worked for a number of small businesses in both Pittsburgh, and Gainesville. She spent the last 23 years of her career as an Administrative Assistant with Shands Department of Marketing and Public Relations. She loved her work and treasured her time as a member of the Marketing and PR team. She will miss having lunch with her good friends in the department.

Betsy was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church; she participated in a number of parish committees, and she was proud to welcome newcomers to the Catholic faith as a leader of St. Patrick's Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Betsy was the original church lady, she enjoyed regaling her family and unsuspecting others with stories about the history and traditions of the Catholic Church.

Betsy was a rabid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She loved her family and friends, she enjoyed having a Manhattan Up, at Lillian's, going to the beach with Martha, the movies with Kathy and Vicky, having tea with Kim and laughing with Nicole. She loved Bunco nights with Bunny and the Zorns. There were other adventures with friends to whom we apologize for not mentioning them by name. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren. She wanted to make sure they worked hard, enjoyed life and took care of one another.

She was predeceased in death by her sister, Kathleen (Loughrey) Kasten, by her son, Andrew A. Miller and by her husband of 46 years, Glenn Miller.

Survivors include; children, Christine (Jeffrey) Cassisi, Charles G. (Deborah) Miller, Steven C. (April) Miller, Matthew M. (Lydia Torres) Miller, Jennifer Miller, Brendan B. (Nancy Dohn) Miller, Peter R. (Saundra) Miller; grandchildren, Caitlin A. & Kevin D. Cassisi, Kelly A. Miller, Bryan & Bobby Willis, Lexie C., Elias X & Xylie B. Miller, James "Jamie" G. McCarter, III, Nate Gholz, Sophia Gholz Olson, Sean Gholz. Three brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law and many wonderful nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.
