CARL BRUMBAUGH Obituary

BRUMBAUGH,
CARL R. 'RAY'
Carl R. 'Ray' Brumbaugh entered into the arms of Jesus on December 2, 2017 at the Kindred North Florida Hospital. On November 24, 1933, he was born to the late Carl and Beulah Brumbaugh in Ann Arbor, MI. Ray grew up on a farm in Whitmore Lake and attended a one room school house for eight years. Ray was quite young when he accepted Christ at Camp Fahola in Michigan. He graduated from Ann Arbor High School and was the state heavy weight wrestling champion in 1951. Ray attended Bob Jones University where he met Lovelda Ellison and married her in 1954. He was a brilliant pitcher for fast pitch softball for many years.
In 1960, Ray graduated from Toccoa Falls Bible College with a desire to work with young people. He applied for and was called to be the director of Lake Swan Camp in Melrose, FL. 'Uncle Ray' and 'Aunt Lovie' served the Lord for 16 years at Lake Swan leaving behind a legacy of 100s, if not 1000s, entering Christ's kingdom in those days. He and Lovie also served 10 years with the GA Sheriff's Boy's Ranch.
Ray became well known throughout the area as a general contractor, being instrumental in constructing many homes and several churches in NE FL. In later years, Ray was unable to get out and loved to watch sermons on TV plus the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He found great pleasure watching his grandson, Jimmy, coach football at several major universities.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Todd Brumbaugh; and his sister, Nanci Hanlon.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lovie; sons, Gary (Shelley) Brumbaugh and Greg (Kathy) Brumbaugh; daughters, Darla Yarbrough (James) and Dawn (James) Johnson; sisters, Arlene (Ed) Ayers, Gayle Aseltine, Janelle (Bob) Collins and Becky (Jack) Thompson; 'adopted' sons, Paul (Beth) Pendleton and Buddy (Diane) DeGraff; nine grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Mr. Brumbaugh will be conducted by Rev. Frank Smith on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 5 P.M. at Lake Sawn Camp in Melrose. The family will receive friends from 4-5:00 P.M. Following the service, dinner will be provided and the family would like to invite all to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Lake Swan Camp, 647 State Road 26, Melrose, FL, 32666. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3596 S. US HWY 441, Lake City, 32025. Please leave words of comfort for the family at
