DIMITROV, DR. EVA AGNES
Gainesville - Eva was born in Sydney, Australia on October 7, 1953 to Michael Dimitrov and Ahinora Petkov/Dimitrov. She started her earthly wanderings when she immigrated with her family to the United States in 1957. Her family settled in Denver, Colorado where she attended school, graduating from Cherry Creek High School in June 1971.
She began her college career at University of Colorado where she received her BS in 1976. She attended Med School at University of Colorado, Denver and received her doctorate in June 1980.
She moved to Seattle, Washington for her residency which she completed in 1986 at the University of Washington - Virginia Mason where she studied under Dr. Charles Cummings.
After her residency she moved to Nashville where she studied under a fellowship with Dr. Michael Glasscock at the Ear Foundation, which she completed in 1987. She started in private practice in Nashville until 1989 when she was recruited to the faculty at the University of Florida.
She was on Faculty there until 1994 when she went into private practice as partners with several of her former residents. Together they formed Accent Physician Specialists which has continued to flourish since her retirement in 2007.
She then went on a seven year battle with sarcoma that finally ended with her death on Tuesday morning, May 14, 2013.
In between she packed in a lot of living. She was an avid skier from a very early age, aspiring cowboy (not cowgirl) and she took her saddle with her wherever she moved. A self taught fly fisher, fooled fish in rivers and lakes all over this country. She was a scuba diver and dove with her husband from Hawaii to the Caribbean.
She also had a lifelong passion for music and studied classical piano first from her father and then from the world famous Antonia Brico.
She is survived by her mother Nora Dimitrov, her sister Nadya Dimitrov/ Westerfield (Gary), her son John Michael Betz, husband James Betz, step daughter Kelsey Rust (Josh) and granddaughter Amelia Jean Rust, as well as countless friends and family from all over the world. Her father, Michael Dimitrov preceded her in July 2003.
She traveled extensively to Europe, the Mediterranean, Latin America, and these United States. She was both a tourist as well as a volunteer on missions and as recently as February was in Guatemala digging a well with Living Waters. She was active on the board of the Alachua County Youth Orchestra for many years until she retired in 2013 and volunteered at Buchholz High School until the end of this school year, and her service ended with her death. In lieu of flowers she requested people to donate time as well as treasure to the charity or cause of your choice. She believed that service to others is the highest calling.
A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Ave. with Dr. Dan G. Johnson officiating.
