SPRINGER, FRIEDA ANNE

Frieda Anne (Douglas) Springer of Gainesville Florida died February 1, 2013 a North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Frieda was born in South Miami on April 30, 1934 to Christabel and Theo Douglas with two brothers, Earl and Don.

Frieda secretly married Philip Springer in 1954 in Folkston, Georgia while she was in nursing school at Alachua General Hospital. After Phil finished his undergraduate degree in biology at University of Florida, the couple left for Jackson, Mississippi where Phil attended medical school. Frieda left school to support her husband to work as a Pulmonary Technician at University of Mississippi and raise her growing family, but returned to the U of F in 1978 to finish her undergraduate education in psychology. She pursued a career in counseling at Meridian Health Care Services where she practiced for about 10 years. She then joined her husband in private practice at Springer Group. Frieda was rarely idle and enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family and friends. She was active in the Bereavement Group and was a Eucharistic Minister at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. There was always a chair next to Frieda's, ready and waiting for those she loved to sit and talk for a while.

She is survived by her husband Phil, seven children, 14 grandchildren and brother. Her children and grandchildren are Louis and Barbara (Michelle and Erin) of Parker, CO, Stewart (Jessica and Harrison) of Gainesville, FL, Michael (Kaitlin) of Gainesville, FL, Douglas and Sandy (Douglas, Christian, Noah and Carie Ann) of Newberry, FL, Thomas and Martina (Bennett) of Vienna, Austria, Susan and Brian Johnson (Eric, Hannah, Ariel and Marina) of Minneapolis, MN and David of Gainesville, FL. Her brother Don Douglas of Greely, Colorado also survives her. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Earl.

Our lives were blessed because we were loved by this woman.

A memorial service is being planned for early summer. An announcement will follow.

Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 N.W. 143rd Street.
