George Edward Ludlow, 75, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville, Fla. Ed was born on Aug. 1, 1937, in Miami, Fla., to the late Luther Spencer Ludlow and Gertrude Hester Clary Ludlow.

He was preceded in death by: brother, Luther Spencer Ludlow Jr.; and nephew, Robin Edward Ludlow.

Ed graduated from Miami Senior High School in 1955. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Florida and Master of Music degree from Drake University. He then studied for a year in Copenhagen, Denmark, under the Fulbright Award. In the summer of 1970, he completed further study at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.

He moved to Blue Mountain, Miss., with his family in 1962 where he was assistant professor of organ studies at Blue Mountain College. He became associate professor in 1966 and retired in 2001 after 39 years of teaching. In addition to teaching at Blue Mountain College, he was the organist at First United Methodist Church in New Albany, Miss., and then director of music at First United Methodist Church in Ripley, Miss.

Ed was well-loved and respected, spending much of his free time mentoring students, visiting nursing homes, and volunteering in the community. He loved to travel and visit with family.

He always had a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous smile that made everyone laugh. Ed was a wonderful man and his loved ones will truly miss him.

Ed leaves to cherish his memories: sons, Mark Edward Ludlow and wife, Tracy Lee Ludlow; David Curtis Ludlow and wife, Theresa Marie Ludlow; grandchildren, Aimee Lee Ludlow Durrance and husband, Jesse Alan Durrance, Margaret Gillan Ludlow, and Jessica Clary Ludlow; sister-in-law, Nancy Carol Smith Ludlow; niece, Carin Lynn Ludlow; and nephew, Deryl Spencer Ludlow.

The Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Milam Funeral Home in Gainesville, FL, the Rev. Alex Farmer, officiating.
