Janett Lane Verwey of Gainesville, Florida, died on January 16, 2013 at the age of 78 at Shands Hospital after a 12 year battle with primary pulmonary hypertension. She is preceded in death by her parents Dennis N. and Bernice Hudson Lane, her sister Dorothy Owen and her brothers Alvis and Lloyd Lane. She was born in Chiefland, Florida on June 15, 1934.
After high school, where she was class valedictorian and captain of the girl's basketball team, she moved to Jacksonville where she completed a program of study at Massey Business College. She married and raised a family in Jacksonville. After retiring from Eastman Kodak Company she moved to Gainesville. She loved spending time with family and being their biggest fans. She rarely missed a band concert, marching band competition, dance recital, baseball, or softball game. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing camellias and was an excellent cook and seamstress. She was a member of the Gainesville Camellia Society and First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Verwey; her three children, Carol Bryan (George) of Gainesville, J. Mark Verwey (Trina) of Middleburg and Timothy A. Verwey of Orlando; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, 300 SW 2nd Avenue, with The Rev. Dr. Robert Shettler officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Chiefland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, January 21, 2013, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to Pulmonary Hypertension Association at phassociation.org.
