Gainesville - Jean-Guy Deffense, age 43 of Gainesville, FL, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013. He was born September 29, 1969 in Portugal, the son of Guy Deffense and Margaret Jeffries Deffense. He proudly served in the United States Army as an MP, having been part of both Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Jean-Guy was a University of Florida law enforcement officer, a member of the UF Police Honor Guard, Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) and Sniper. He loved the beach, spending time with his family and most importantly being outside with his dogs, Sugar and Spice.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Ann Wolf-Deffense; father, Guy Deffense of Portugal; mother, Margaret Deffense of Tampa, FL; son, Bobby Pitsenbarger of Gainesville, FL; brother, Luc Deffense of Jacksonville, FL and sisters, Deirdre Greene Knowlton of Sanford, FL and Catherine Knowles Deffense of Portugal. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Margaret Jeffries and Col. James Curtis Jeffries.
Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. in the Canterbury Florida Equestrian Showplace, 23100 W. Newberry Road, Newberry, with Jonathon Defino officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park West. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alachua County Humane Society, 2029 NW 6th St. 32609.
