Kassia Cook-Walsh, beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on the night of Tuesday, August 7th in the gentle company of her husband Mike in Gainesville, Florida.
Kassia was born in Walnut Creek, California on June 19, 1968 to Kirsten Gayen and Thomas Cook. She lived in Lafayette, California before moving as a young child to Spring Valley, New York in 1971. She lived all over the world-from New York, to Lisbon, to Nairobi-before ultimately settling in Gainesville in the late '80s.
On December 21, 2012, she married Michael Walsh, with whom she raised and cared for four dogs (Sula, Norah, Jack, and Jo) and seven cats (Yume, Suejoe, Samson, Annie, Llamar, Biscuits, and Gravy). For many years, she worked at downtown Gainesville's The Top restaurant. Her humor, generosity, love, courage, and intense creativity inspired everyone she knew, and will continue to emanate from and brighten each of her homes. The same is true of the great strength that she showed in the final months of her life.
She lives on in her dear husband Mike, father Thomas, mother Kirsten, brothers Nic and Sinclair, Nic's wife Jill and their son Lars, loving step-mother, Laura; aunt, Jeaniene, stepchildren Keenan and Emily, five other brothers- and sisters-in-law, eleven other nieces and nephews, the dogs and cats (her babies), her beloved friends and coworkers at The Top, and countless more.
Kassia will be placed to rest in Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery (7204 SE County Road 234, Gainesville, FL 32641) at 10:00 AM on Sunday, August 12th. A service will follow from noon to 2:00 PM at The Wooly (20 N Main Street). Any and all are welcome. Those who wish may bring fresh, loose flowers to the burial, and/or food to the after-service.
